New Year, fresh start on my blog! Am determined to be able to regularly post on here and share as much of the cool music I discover to share with everyone!
Thought I’d start off the New Year with someone who has been tipped my many to become a big star this year. Billie Marten only finished her GCSE’s before the summer but is already making a name for herself.
The teenager, from Ripon in North Yorkshire, has been making music since a young age, and was first discovered on Youtube when her mother posted a video so her grandparents could watch it in France. It got hundreds of thousands of hits and within months this young singer had been approached by two TV talent shows and turned down both of them. She continued to post songs in her distinctive yearning, breathy folk voice on Youtube and SoundCloud and grew in maturity and confidence.
This past year, she has toured with fellow folk singer Lucy Rose and played the BBC Introducing Stage at the Reading Festival, fitting in gigs around her A-Level homework.
Along the way, she’s picked up a phalanx of celebrity supporters, including Ed Sheeran, who tweeted last month that (her song) “Bird is stunning”.
I’m really excited to see where this year takes Billie and would love to go hear her when she comes down to play a gig near me in Brighton.
